Rebuttal on Trump

Dear editor:

In a recent letter by Anthony Lloyd, he lambasted Congressman Westerman for supporting the Republican former President Trump in the 2024 election. However, instead of focusing on Westerman, I'd like to slap a little reality and common sense to his criticisms of Trump. I will use Mr. Lloyd's quotes below and rebut each one of them.

"A man facing felony charges in four jurisdictions." It's obvious all these charges are just a well-orchestrated attempt by the liberal world to get Trump out of the election. They hate him like no other. Strange they most all appeared at just about the same time. They have thrown everything against the wall hoping something will stick. Most of the indictments are shaky and if he did get convicted of anything, an appeal would have a good chance of overturning it. If Trump was not running, I strongly think none of this would be happening.

"A man found civilly liable for sexual assault." This happened around 30 years ago, and the woman couldn't remember exactly when it happened. Why were there no criminal charges filed? Why did she wait so long to file the civil case? Did Democrats dig this up similar to the Judge Kavanaugh accusations? We'll probably never know, but it makes one wonder. I'm sure the case being in heavily Democrat New York had no bearing on the verdict (sarcasm). It is being appealed. Also, Trump was found liable for supposedly defaming this woman. He isn't allowed to defend himself from her accusations? Again, it's in New York, enough said.

"A man who claims to be a business genius, but has declared bankruptcy on multiple occasions." Trump has never filed personal bankruptcy. In the business world, bankruptcy is a common tool that can be used to reorganize a company in order to ensure it survives. A smart businessman may utilize it vs. letting a company fail.

"A man who has said it's OK to 'just grab'em' in reference to women's bodies.".This was said in a private interview, not meant to go public. Was it rude and inappropriate? Yes. However, most men or even women I'm sure have talked similar about those of the opposite sex sometime in their lives. Doesn't make it right, but that's life.

"Who absconded with classified documents after leaving office?" President Trump, as the commander in chief had the ultimate authority to classify or declassify documents. If he did before leaving office, case closed. If he didn't, it's entirely possible he did have authority under the Presidential Records Act to hold on to them. All this is still to be decided. At least they were secured behind locked doors with the Secret Service around; instead of unsecured in several different places by a person who had no authority to have them in the first place, like our current president.

"Donald Trump called veterans, people who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, suckers." This is highly disputed that he ever said that. Yes, there is an anti-Trump general who claims he did. However, there are also others who were with Trump at the time, who claim he never said it. There is no audio or video evidence of it.

You may not like Trump personally, but overall his policies were sound and worked. Don't let these cheap attacks, lawfare, and allegations by Trump haters and the liberal media sway you. Remember this when you vote in November. Let's get our country turned around.

Dumbing down of US

Dear editor:

Our governor is following the Republican plan in dumbing down America. This is a national trend accelerated by Ronald Reagan. Our democracy was established for citizen participation. This movement makes them ignorant of their responsibility in contributing to the operation of the government and society. Democracy can only survive in an educated society.

The Supreme Court gave capitalists total control of the government. In the absence of democracy, capitalists become oligarchs and fit well in an authoritarian government. They have no responsibility to maintain democracy. Education in civics, government, liberal arts, and humanities are dropped and the economic predators are unrestrained by liberal ideas or regulations and are free to continue to take the wealth from the ignorant masses.

'March to Madness'

Dear editor:

I was troubled by the "March to Madness" editorial cartoon in the March 17 Sunday paper. I will take the 'real threats" one by one.

Wealth Gap: There will always be a wealth gap; any attempt to eliminate it will only make everyone poor. Wealthy people create jobs.

Sustainability: Perhaps the cartoonist meant unsustainability. In any case, the national debt is the biggest threat to sustainability.

Domestic Terror: Are parents attending school board meetings really a bigger threat than crime?

Disinformation: I am tired of the government and social media collaborating to suppress the truth as disinformation.

Nationalism: Since when is being proud to be an American a threat to anyone?

Housing Crisis: Does housing illegal aliens at government expense contribute to this?

AI: This may be a real threat; I must admit I am not qualified to speak to it.

Ignorance: I agree that this is a huge threat. It is the only explanation for college students to hate America and Israel, and to silence by mob action any dissenting voice that seeks to be heard on campus.

Now for the imaginary threats:

Woke mobs: Again, one has only to watch the anti-Israel demonstrations to know this is a real threat.

LGBTQ+: How many genders are there? The answer is two. The LGBTQ+ crowd is not just seeking equal rights. They are trying to destroy the family, our children, and our country!

Voter fraud is real, and I am convinced that Biden's victory in 2020 is the result.

Crime: Can any sane person say that crime is an "imaginary threat?"

Mexican Rapists: How about sex trafficking by illegal aliens? How about my own niece who has permanent brain damage after being hit by an illegal alien driver as she was crossing a street in Biloxi, Mississippi? How about addictions to illegal drugs imported by cartels?

Feminism: Who imagines that true feminism is a threat?

School libraries: Again, there is nothing inherently threatening about school libraries. However, there is absolutely a potential threat from materials and activities that undermine our moral foundations and confuse our children into believing that they can choose their gender, or even choose to be an animal.
